Impact Teams

Each year, Kids Around the World sends teams composed of playground builders, play relief teachers, and many others who connect with and assist those in need. Teamwork on the mission field is crucial in demonstrating genuine love to the local community, as well as how healthy relationships can accomplish positive change, forever impacting a nation for Christ. Team members also express life transformation as they engage poor, war-torn communities around the world, overflowing in the love that the Father has for the precious individuals living there.

Depending on how the installations go, we also look forward to spending one of our days exploring the sites of this beautiful “Land of Eternal Spring”.

Flight Parameters: Flights need to arrive into Cancun International – CUN before 8pm on November 11th. Flights need to depart after 2 pm on Nov 18th

Trip Info: Have you ever vacationed in a developing country and felt a tinge of guilt… aware of the huge contrast between your holiday experience and the daily struggles of the local population?

If so, this could be a trip for you. A chance to give back to the hard working, poorly paid indigenous labor force that support Cancun’s tourism industry.

Join us as we build community and restore hope in the township of Alfredo Bonfil, an impoverished commuter township southwest of Cancun in Mexico. We’ll work with a local church and other committed partners to build a large playground for families at a sports park. We’ll also be involved in other aspects of community development and ministry outreach. This will be your opportunity to provide practical love, build relationships, and care for children and their parents who are desperate for faith and hope.

CONTEXT: Recognized by most travelers as a tropical paradise, Cancun retains the dubious title of being Mexico’s suicide capital – suffering twice the national average, a result of several converging factors. Cancun’s massive tourist infrastructure was conceived and quickly developed by Mexico’s ministry of tourism. Poor migrants, mostly Mayan Indians attracted to steady work and the hope of a better life, came from regions far and wide. These workers settled into permanent shanty-towns built around the western perimeter of Cancun. Mexican sociologists have labeled Cancun the nation’s loneliest city. Their research shows that residents of Cancun suffer from under-developed social networks – due to the city’s artificial inception and “overnight” development, not to mention the city’s prioritization of the needs of foreign tourist. Lacking real community, supportive relationships, and connection to a local church, many hard-working parents are falling through the cracks brought on by loneliness and despair.

Local Partner Info:  Kids Around the World is partnering with Back2Back, a ministry actively addressing both social and spiritual needs in Cancun, as well as other parts of Mexico and the world. We will be staying at the Back2Back base. This large house in a gated residential community set up for visiting short term teams, with dorm-style rooms, community living room and kitchen… and a pool!

The “Lord’s Kitchen” was set up near the tent city to help feed the tent city children and is still part of the ministry outreach of Grace Village. The local government granted Grace International 6 acres of land in the Lambi Community, approximately 5 miles away, to build houses for the earthquake refugees.  In the past three years at Lambi, the first 56 homes have been built with the help of volunteer work teams and the prospective owners. A second village is under construction about 12 miles West, to be known as Heritage Village, containing 88 homes and a boys’ orphanage. Operating since 1974, Grace International was founded by Bishop Joel and wife Doris Jeune, who together oversee and lead the organization in the roles of President and Vice President.  For the past 43 years, Grace International has been impacting lives through the oversight and management of many churches, 70 schools, 3 orphanages, as well as a medical/dental clinic, a pediatric hospital, a home for elderly widows, vocational school and Community sustainable villages.
